Why Armet Accounting?

I have been encouraged into starting to write a blog so I thought I would give it a try. Most posts will be more accountancy related but this one answers a question I’m sure you’ve been pondering…where did the business name Armet Accounting come from?

Once I decided to start my business, I knew I needed a business name. I tried a few combinations using my surname and the name of our house but neither of them really seemed quite right. I tried combining my initials and surname like my dad had done in choosing the name of his business but "Laarb" and "Laarbuckle" aren’t really very catchy! Then it occurred to me that instead of borrowing the method my dad used to name his business, I could instead make use of the name he used to run his business.

I’m proud to use “Armet”, even though it’s no longer a haulage business specialising in edible oils run by A.R. Metcalfe. I am looking forward to my own business being as successful as my dad’s and I hope to make him proud too. It also happens to be a combination of my surname and my maiden name so it works on more than one level.

What thought processes did you go through in choosing your business name?

My residential landlord clients would probably tell you that they are fed up of hearing about HMRC’s latest requirements for reporting Capital Gains Tax. At every accounts review meeting I make sure they are fully aware that in the event they sell their residential rental property, they must complete a return and pay any tax that is likely to be due within 60 days of the sale being agreed.
