There's a new face at Armet Accounting

This is Bailey, my 7-month-old cocker spaniel and he’s trouble. He hates walking…well he hates walking along roads anyway. Unfortunately for him, wherever we go (especially living in an urban environment) there is road walking involved.

This is not what I signed up to. I had visions of walking for miles over hills and round lochs. But at the moment I can’t even walk him across the road to the park, instead I have to chauffeur him around to be able to walk at all. However, with the help of regular coaching from Jill at local business Simply Pawsitive I have been trying to help him through his phobia by acclimatising him to walking along roads. I have whiled away countless hours encouraging him around the local housing estates and enticing him up to the main road using little bits of chicken and sausage. We are often to be found sitting on the bench at Main Street watching the buses and lorries go by. He seems to be making very gradual progress and through consistency and hard work we are overcoming some of the invisible obstacles that he seems to react to.

New adventures rarely work out exactly as we envisage them. When I pictured myself running my business, I had expected to be absorbed in Excel spreadsheets from dusk ‘til dawn and instead I’m often getting to grips with Word instead. I didn’t expect the steep learning curve in website building, search engine optimisation and marketing (to mention a few). In all walks of life there are challenges to overcome and work may take a turn that we weren’t quite expecting. Like my walks with Bailey, I believe that consistency and hard work will pay off and I can build on the success my business has already seen.

Despite my frustration with his phobias, Bailey is the perfect companion in the office. His snoring provides the perfect white noise to enable me to focus on my new skills and I wouldn’t change him for the world.

If you’d like to make an appointment to come and meet Bailey (and me) enter your details below to book your free initial consultation.

Many thanks to Jill for all of her help with Bailey and for allowing me to link to her website, Simply Pawsitive.

I’ve sold a property, do I need to do a Capital Gains Tax return?
By Laura Arbuckle 01 Feb, 2024
My residential landlord clients would probably tell you that they are fed up of hearing about HMRC’s latest requirements for reporting Capital Gains Tax. At every accounts review meeting I make sure they are fully aware that in the event they sell their residential rental property, they must complete a return and pay any tax that is likely to be due within 60 days of the sale being agreed.

By Laura Arbuckle 23 Mar, 2022
We all know that at the start of the year we should be setting goals and they should be “SMART”, that is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timebound (or even SMARTER if you are going to Evaluate and Review them). What happens if our goals don't drive the right decisions?
